dDiary1.1
Copyright (c) 1990-1991 by Linda Burkhalter.
All rights reserved.
PURPOSE:
dDiary is a database management system designed and developed to work
like a diary. It is intended purely as a vehicle for the expression
of private thoughts. I have personally found that regular use has a
therapeutic, stress reducing effect.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:.....................................................
The guiding light in design and development was simplicity of use.
You should find dDiary very "user-friendly". It doesn't require a
manual of instructions 6 inches wide. Just "pop it out of the box"
and you are ready to go. But just in case, dDiary does provide context-
sensitive help screens.
dDiary may be configured to suit your particular needs and tastes.
Configuration includes: color, bell, subdirectory location of data
files and other elements. Unlike many other programs distributed on
the bulletin board service circuit, dDiary allows you the option
of configuring it so that the opening copyright screen is not
displayed.
dDiary uses standard dBase data files. They are not protected in
any way and may be examined with a dBase file reading program. You
should not modify the structure of these files. dBase enthusiasts:
take a peak, but please do not touch.
WHAT IT IS NOT:........................................................
dDiary is not a wordprocessing program. It doesn't even provide an
option for printing diary entries. (Future versions may include such
an option, but only if there is sufficient user demand for it.)
dDiary is not intended to take the place of a trained counselor. It
provides a vehicle for self-expression, and this is often the key to
resolving inner conflicts. If you resolve inner conflicts, you will
attain inner peace.
TERMS OF USE:..........................................................
If you find dDiary useful, a gift of $10.00, or any amount, would be
appreciated. My suggestion is that you try the program for a while.
If it meets a need, let us know. If you can, make a contribution.
More important, however, is your input. Comments, criticisms and
suggestions are welcome. The best of these will be included in future
program releases. Help us build a better product for you. You will
find the name and address of the author at the end of this file.
INSTALLATION ON HARD DISK............................................
If you are familiar with basic DOS commands such as "md", and have
modified your "autoexec.bat" file, you should have no problems with the
installation instructions below. If you are a relative newcomer, my
recommendation is to follow the instructions to the T, and to install
the program exactly as described in the examples given.
1. Use the DOS command "md" to create a directory for dDiary files
(dd.exe, ddconfig.dbf, diary.dbf, diary.dbt -- if you are missing any
of these files, the program will not run).
EXAMPLE: c:\md\diary
2. Copy all files to the created directory.
3. Use a text editor to rewrite your autoexec.bat file as follows:
a. Add this line (it doesn't matter where):
SET loc_dd=<dDiary file path name>
EXAMPLE: SET loc_dd=c:\diary
b. Add the <dDiary file path name> to the PATH list.
EXAMPLE: PATH=c:\sym;c:\dbase;c:\wp50;c:\diary
4. After saving your rewritten autoexec.bat file, warm boot your PC.
5. Go to the subdirectory where you placed the dDiary files and type
"dd" at the DOS prompt to start the program. Press the F2 key to
access the configuration module. At the line "Subdirectory for data
files: " type <dDiary file path name>.
EXAMPLE: c:\diary
(Enter other configuration options as desired.)
Now you are ready to call up dDiary from any subdirectory on your disk.
FINAL NOTE.............................................................
Thank you for the time you have taken to look our way. We hope you
find dDiary beneficial. Nothing would please us more than to hear from
you.
